Natural Remedies for Spring Allergies

Autumn Braley

It’s that time of year! Our beautiful Colorado landscape is in bloom and rhinitis right along with it. We get a lot of questions at the Apothecary regarding herbal remedies for allergies, and with good reason; according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s (AAFA) 2026 Allergy Capitals Report, Denver is projected to have a worse than average spike in pollen this year. We have some great options at the Apothecary to help you build your allergy response toolbox this spring.

Apothecary Allergy Offerings

Quercetin is an excellent supplement for mild to moderate seasonal allergies without the drowsiness. Its ability to inhibit histamine release, decrease inflammation, and stimulate a healthy immune response make it an excellent option for daily use. Take up to 1000mg with breakfast for ideal timing and absorption!

Kick-Ass Allergy is a classic, effective herbal tincture from our friends at WishGarden Herbs. This formulation contains a potent combination of Yerba Santa leaf, Nettle leaf, Echinacea Purpurea root, Orange peel, and Echinacea Purpurea aerials. This is a personal favorite of our Apothecary manager. We have 3 sizes available. 4 dropperfuls in a bit of water at any time of day should do the trick.

Stinging Nettle Root is emerging as a popular herbal remedy for rhinitis and hay fever. It’s also an effective free radical scavenger! 250mg once or twice a day can help with pesky allergy symptoms.

Golden Pearls (Lu Gui Quwan Tang) are Dr. Margaret’s herbal recommendation. This mixture helps with circulation, opens the nasal passages, and inhibits production of phlegm. This is called a “drying” herbal formulation in TCM, helping clear toxic heat and warming deficient Yang Qi. Take 3 capsules 2 times a day for mild symptoms or 3 capsules 3 times a day for moderate symptoms.

Hista-Aid is a high-end, potent combo of Vitamin C, Quercetin, and Luteolin in a liquid liposomal form made by Quicksilver Scientific. This is a phenomenal combination of anti-histamines without the drowsiness of over the counter allergy meds, and the quality of Quicksilver products can’t be beat. We recommend 4 pumps 10 minutes before meals as needed.
