Depression Treatment
Depression
Functional Medicine in Boulder, CO
When you've been told everything looks normal, but nothing feels that way.
Depression can be a complex condition, and the conventional model of treating it as a serotonin deficiency to be corrected with medication is increasingly recognized as incomplete. That doesn't mean antidepressants aren't valuable; for many people, they are an essential part of recovery. But it does mean that for a significant number of patients, depression has contributing causes that go unaddressed: chronic inflammation, thyroid dysfunction, low testosterone or estrogen, vitamin D deficiency, gut dysbiosis, cortisol dysregulation, sleep disorders, or underlying autoimmune conditions. At Helios, we look for these causes.
Depression Evaluation at Helios
Our evaluation begins with a thorough conversation about your history of trauma and experience, followed by targeted lab work to assess hormonal, metabolic, nutritional, and inflammatory markers. We're looking for the physiological factors that may be making your brain environment less hospitable to resilience. Treatment is always individualized. It may involve dietary and lifestyle recommendations, micronutrient therapy, hormone optimization, IV nutrient infusions, acupuncture, and collaboration with your therapist or psychiatrist. We do not replace your mental health team; we work alongside them to address the body side of what is always a mind-body condition.
Treatment Plans & Outcomes
If you've tried antidepressants without adequate results, or if you're looking for a more complete approach to your mental health, we want to hear your story.
Depression is not a character flaw or a simple chemical deficiency. Schedule a consultation and let's investigate what your body may be telling you.
