Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common diagnoses in gastroenterology (and one of the most frustrating for patients) because it is typically a diagnosis of exclusion: meaning, everything serious has been ruled out, but nothing has been identified. The conventional answer is often dietary advice, a prescription, and a "learn to manage it." At Helios, we believe that's not good enough. IBS symptoms such as bloating, cramping, alternating constipation and diarrhea, urgency, and pain are real and disruptive, and they deserve a thorough investigation into what's actually causing them.
Digestive Health Treatment at Helios
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a common and frequently missed driver of IBS symptoms. We test for it using breath testing and treat it with targeted protocols that may include antibiotics, herbal antimicrobials, and biofilm disruptors, and motility agents, followed by a careful reintroduction and microbiome restoration phase. We also evaluate for food sensitivities, intestinal permeability ("leaky gut"), parasitic infections, dysbiosis patterns, and nutritional malabsorption. Our functional GI panel is comprehensive, not the limited stool test most labs offer.
