Seasonal Immune Support: Supplemental and Herbal Approaches to Immunity
Autumn Braley, Apothecary Manager
Fall brings beautiful colors, holidays, and unfortunately seasonal illness. At Helios, we have some excellent supplements and strategies for both immune support and recovery that we’ve developed with years of experience.
While masking and vaccination are a useful and effective prevention for respiratory infections, for those who are prone to infections, are immunocompromised, or have Long COVID, we have a list of immune boosting supplements that we have curated since the beginning of the pandemic.
Neomycin: This antibiotic ointment is found over the counter at most pharmacies or online. When applied to the inside of the nose it stimulates the innate immune system to prepare it for repelling many respiratory viruses, not just COVID. You may use it in combination with any other prevention strategy. We recommend using it 3-4x/week during cold and flu season.
Culturelle (GG rhamnosus): This is a widely available probiotic and the most studied probiotic strain to date. When taken at one capsule (15 billion CFU) per day, it can prevent or lessen the severity of COVID. Cultrelle was studied in the context of family members caring for someone with COVID. For those family members, taking one Culturelle cap daily for seven days led to a reduction in both COVID infections and infection severity. Additionally, it’s inexpensive!
Empowered Immunity: This is a custom COVID prevention formula sold by Dr. Margaret Hampton. For those of you familiar with the Yu Ping Feng San or Jade Windscreen, this is a version of that adapted specifically for COVID. You can take three capsules up to four times a day, depending on risk factors and exposure.
We also offer immune boosting infusions in our IV suite, full of great vitamins and minerals.
